Vaginoplasty

Vaginal loosening and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) are common problems after natural childbirth. Typically, the vagina and its supporting muscles and tissues become stretched or even torn during childbirth.

What is Vaginoplasty Surgery?

Vaginoplasty deals with tightening of the tissues of the vaginal area to provide greater friction during sexual intercourse.

Tightening of the introitus also re-directs the penile penetration to the front of the vaginal canal which is more sensitive and is where the G-spot is located. A new radiofrequency device called Viveve, is very effective in improving both conditions especially, if the looseness is limited to the vaginal canal. However, if the looseness involves scarring and separation of the levator ani muscles (which is a major muscle responsible for supporting the pelvic floor) vaginoplasty surgery is required to remove the scars and to re-approximate the muscles.

Your Consultation

Before setting a date for the surgery, you will need to arrange a consultation with Dr. Liu at The Center for Sexual Enhancement. During this consultation, Dr. Liu will ask you about your complete medical history, which will include questions regarding allergies and past procedures.

You will need to tell Dr. Liu about the issues you are looking to address with the help of vaginoplasty surgery. He will tell you about the recovery process, preparation, and the procedure itself. If you are a good candidate for the procedure, Dr. Liu will create a surgical plan and a date will be set for the surgery.

The Vaginoplasty Procedure

Either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia will be used to make the patient more comfortable during their vaginoplasty surgery. The choice of anesthesia will be made as part of their consultation.

An incision will be made in the area, and then a wedge of excess skin tissue will be removed to help tighten the region. The separated muscle tissues will be rejoined and tightened with the help of internal sutures. Finally, the incisions will be closed with surgical sutures.

The Vaginoplasty Recovery Process

After a vaginoplasty procedure has been performed, the patient will need to rest and recover for a time. Typically, patients experience around a week or two of recovery time. Time off from work may or may not be required, depending on the extend and type of work performed.

Painkillers will be prescribed in order to make the recovery process easier; take these as directed. Antibiotics will also be prescribed.

The vaginal tissues will be weakened for a time. It will be necessary to avoid intercourse and tampon use for around two months in order to ensure that the healing process is not disrupted. This helps to avoid any complications.

During recovery, do not engage in any physically strenuous activities like heavy lifting, heavy exercise, or sports.

Take good care of the incision site in order to avoid the possibility of infection. After a day or two, it will be possible to shower again.
