Clitoral Unhooding
Clitoral unhooding is the removal of the tissue that covers and surrounds the clitoris. The amount of skin that covers the clitoris may differ between women. Some women have extra tissue that covers the clitoris. Although the skin that covers the clitoris is useful in protecting the clitoris from irritation or unwanted stimulation, extra skin can prevent satisfactory stimulation during sex. In some instances, a woman may not like the appearance of the clitoris because of the extra skin.
Clitoral unhooding may be recommended along with libaplasty and vaginoplasty to present a well-balanced and well-shaped vagina. Clitoral unhooding reduces the excess tissue to create a more attractive and youthful looking vagina while allowing more stimulation to the clitoris.
Is This Procedure Right for Me?
Those who feel uncomfortable about the appearance of their vagina may be interested in including clitoral unhooding in their vaginal-rejuvenation surgery. If you find that you are having trouble with arousal or reaching orgasm, the reason for it may be excess clitoral hood tissue.
Before you undergo this procedure, you will visit with Dr. Liu for an informative consultation. During this consultation, Dr. Liu will go over the details of the surgery, including preparation and recovery steps. You will be able to see before-and-after photos and ask questions regarding the procedure.
Make sure to tell Dr. Liu your complete medical history, including any allergies you may have, any previous procedures, and any medications or supplements you are currently taking. The two of you will discuss your reasons for considering the surgery, and Dr. Liu will perform an examination to ensure that it is the right option for you.
The Details of the Process
This surgery only takes around one hour to complete, since the amount of prepuce tissue removal is minimal. Anesthesia is administered at the start of the procedure in order to ensure that the patient is free of any discomfort or pain for the duration of the surgery.
Once the anesthesia has taken effect, very small and precise incisions are made in the region, and then the excess prepuce tissue covering the clitoris is reduced. The exact method for this varies from doctor to doctor. To complete the procedure, tiny dissolvable stitches are used to close the incisions.
Healing After a Clitoral Unhooding Procedure
Recovery time from clitoral unhooding is minimal, and the surgery is an outpatient procedure. Most patients return to light activities in the same day, which includes showering the day following surgery.
Mild swelling may arise during the following two to three days after the procedure then it will dissipate over the next several weeks. Some minimal bruising may occur, and stitches will dissolve on their own. It is best to avoid sitting as much as possible during the healing process.
